Characters
Jean Louis Finch "Scout"
The narrator and main character of To Kill A Mockingbird is Jean Louise Finch, or Scout. Scout is a young child living with her brother Jem and her father Atticus, and the character Calpurnia is also a frequent in her life. Scout is very intelligent at the age of six, as she is the only literate one in her first grade class at the beginning of the book. Gradually as the book continues on, Scout watches her family, especially her brother, age and mature. It's kind of easily comprehensible that she doesn't really understand a lot, as she's becoming the age of discovering herself between her femininity side and her masculine side. This goes hand in hand with Jem, Dill and her in the beginning of the book where Jem is becoming more and more snobby, not wanting much to do with her feminine side.
Jeremy Finch "Jem"
Jem is Scout's older sibling, who tends to be very close to Scout. The age difference between him and his sister is four years, and Jem seemed to be making a large impact on how Scout was acting with things such as femininity and masculinity. He also has his immature side locked in, as when he was running away from the Radley's place where his pants got stuck into the fence. He returned to his pants folded onto the fence and it's shown that he sort of has a self reflection moment as to how he's been treating Boo Radley, and that Boo Radley doesn't seem like as bad of a person that the town makes him out to be. Jem has this strong urge to be an adult very quickly as he enters his teenage years, and this can easily be shown as to how he reacts during the trial of Tom Robinson and Mayella Ewell. Jem struggles to understands why people would lock Robinson up like that, and it's reflecting that Jem is entering a world where not everybody in Maycomb county is exactly the best of the best. Lastly, Jem's arm became broken because of Bob Ewell. Because of Jem being related to Atticus, & Atticus and the Ewell's tend not to get along after the trial, Bob didn't care at all as long as it was a Finch.
Atticus Finch
Atticus is the father of both Jem and Scout, mainly referred to by his first name instead of the parent honorific. Atticus is a layer in Maycomb who is one of the very few residents who believe in the equality of the races. Atticus is a very important figure in both of Jem's & Scout's lives, as he teaches them important topics both inside and out of the household. A situation that mainly formed this character, and made him highly relevant to Scout's narration is also the trial of Tom Robinson & Mayella Ewell. Because of the outcome of the trial, Bob Ewell seems to be angry & threatens Atticus, even spitting in his face. However, due to Atticus' well mannered nature, he does not fret over it. Beforehand as well, where he had to shoot the rabid dog scruffing around town, he seemed to be very drawn back to the idea, even though he was a really good shot not just years before.
Calpurnia
Calpurnia is the servant figure into the Finch family. She's a big part of the children's lives, showing them the "other" side of the Maycomb town considering race and ethnicity.
Charles Baker Harris -“Dill”
Dill spends time with both Jem and Scout during the summer, being a neighbor who switches back and forth. He isn't a constant character into the story line.
Authur "Boo" Radley
Seemingly the outcast of the Maycomb town. Authur Radley is the head of the many swarms of rumors that flood through the citizens of the Maycomb town. Many people believe him to be a monster, a terrorizer, and quite even a murderer.
Tom Robinson
A black man who is accused of raping Bob Ewell's daughter, Mayella Ewell.
Bob Ewell
Father of Mayella Ewell, the child who had be supposedly raped by Tom Robinson.
